How we use AI
We use AI tools to help make our guides. This page says what the tools do and what people do.
What AI does
- It suggests topics, based on what people search for.
- It gathers facts from public sources, each with a short quote.
- It writes a draft, mainly from those facts.
What our software checks
- It loads every source page and confirms the quoted words are on it. Facts that fail are dropped.
- It checks each draft’s structure and reading level, and rejects banned phrases.
- It rejects a draft that gives an energy figure, rating, price, saving or safety distance its source does not state, and it redoes the arithmetic in worked examples.
It does not check every sentence of a draft against a source.
What people do
- Our editor, George McTaggart, chooses the topics.
- Our editor reads every guide and approves it, or sends it back. No guide goes live without that approval.
Our guides are not reviewed by an electrician or engineer.
Our limits on AI
- AI never writes in the voice of a person, and never claims personal experience.
- AI never invents quotes, people or studies.
Images
Most of our images are stock photos or diagrams we build from the cited data. If we use an AI-generated image, it never shows a realistic person presented as real.
